I was a nervous producer in my twenties when I did my first interview with victims of domestic abuse. I recall the stark room in the women’s shelter and the care our crew took to properly light the room so that the identity of those we interviewed would be masked by darkness. I was so nervous about pushing too hard with my questions, probing too deeply for insights and details. I can’t even imagine how nervous the women must have been. But we were united in a mission to expose the ugly reality of domestic violence and the fact that it affects those all around us…people one would never suspect are victimized by the cruelty – and the stigma. Those interviews, their stories have stayed with me all these years. I hope they found peace, that their strength flourished, that they thrived and that the essence of what they shared made its way into A DANGEROUS PROPOSITION to help others.
